**This is taken and modified from a speech that Vince Lombardi first gave to the Green Bay Packers in 1959 when he took over as head coach. In the year before Vince Lombardi took over as head coach, the Packers had one win and eleven losses and were in danger of losing their franchise in the National Football League. Over the next nine years, the Packers never had a losing season and won five NFL championships including the first two Super Bowls. Three months after Vince Lombardi’s death in 1970, the Super Bowl trophy was renamed the Vince Lombardi Trophy. In part, this mission statement is a tribute to his professionalism, his relentless pursuit of Biblical ethics and Christian sanctification in his daily life, and the excellence he obtained in his chosen field.
